I agree. I wouldn't step foot in a Service King with any car that I cared about. Your best bet is to get the geek to do the top for $200. It should be entertaining at least to see him do the job in 3 hours.

Thanls for the info on Service King. It's not that I planned on having them do the work so much as I thought I could get them to agree to write up an estimate for all the damages that I thought needed to be repaired.

Sure enough, that's what I got. After quoting parts and labor on the new top, drivers seat, pulling and steam cleaning carpets and full interior detail I got a quote of just over $5000. Now a claims adjuster from the insurance company will be coming out to do their version of a "quote" and the haggling will begin. Once we settle they'll cut me a check and I can get the repairs done and cut a check(s) to whom ever does the repairs.

If all goes well I can get my car made whole again with only the deductable out of pocket. And after all, isn't that the point of having insurance?

Haha, and to get raped twice a year (or however often they bill you)... but I've sure gotten my money's worth out of them, haha.

It will be a canvas only. There's no problem with the frame.

In fact, if it was a full frame and canvas replacement I might be more apt to try a DIY.

Go with S2kgeek. He can do it no problem--like he said he and josh have done mine many times. Also what color seat do you need? Gerry

[QUOTE=s2kgeek9,Mar 1 2006, 04:11 PM] don't hate just becasue I can do it in less time than you, not to mention for less money.

BTW... ask gerry how many times my room mate and I have taken his top in and out, then you will understand how I can do it in 3 hours. Josh did one 2 weeks ago in just 3 hours by himself.

If $200 is worth your time then I say go for it. It's not worth mine. There's just no reason to be disrespectful about that fact.
And before you get to high and mighty about your mad skills don't forget that I wrote the book on the top swap and retro-fit which is now being used under agreement by Robbins Auto Tops. There's a good chance I know what I'm talking about.
Clovis,

I don't think he meant any disrespect - I think he was just yankin your chain a little... Chill out man - people here know you know your stuff.

Sorry, but I call . When the guy starts digging up old quotes to prove his point I'm not hearing any sarcasm in what he is saying.
