next autocross?
Hey guys, just wanted to know if there are any plans for the next autocross. I am pretty much out of tread on my rear S02's and plan on changing them soon. I was wondering if I could finish them off at an autocross. I know its still pretty cold outside but just wanted to know if there are any plans. Thanks, Kumar.
Stefan (or elistan), if you want/need some additional attendance (maybe to defray the cost), the NT Prelude Group would like to be involved. We can probably guarantee at least 10 people (if needed). If nothing else, it will help with running cones.

We plan to discuss the next Auto-X date during our next meeting. Has anyone checked with Mineral Wells to see what days are available? I'll inquire with S2KCA to check the status of insurance for '02.
I'm also interested in club attendance at an existing event. Anyone have connections with a local Auto-X group? I know there are events in the mid-cities. Maybe we can find a closer site with less destructive asphalt than Mineral Wells. My S-02's are feeling pretty abused, time to get another set of wheels and tires for track use.

svann,
There are a number of other local (DFW) organizations that run autocrosses. Here's a partial rundown:
Texas Region SCCA - http://autocross.com/texasregion/indexflash.swf
Lone Star BMWCCA - http://www.lscautox.org/
Equipe Rapide - http://www.autocross.com/er/
Maverick Region PCA - http://vista.pca.org//mav/
Most of them should have their '02 schedules up yet (I know SCCA, ER, and BMWCCA do). Other than Mineral Wells, you've basically got Pennington Field, a small site in Bedford just off of Highway 183, and the west parking lot at Texas Motor Speedway, where four of the SCCA's events will be held this season.
As for tire kindness... Pennington is concrete/cement (can't remember which), not asphalt, and will chew your tires up even faster than Mineral Wells. TMS is probably the best surface, and is a lot bigger than Pennington (although still not as big as Mineral Wells) and is sealed asphalt, so it is reasonably OK on tires.
As for club attendance, I know both the local SCCA and ER groups welcome club attendance (SCCA had some deal with a local VW club at their last event last season) and the BMW club welcomes non-BMW attendees, whether officially or unofficially. Heck, as a member of NTPOG (North Texas Prelude Owners Group), we used to make up nearly half the attendance at BMW events back in '00. I've never been to a PCA event (running both BMW and SCCA's schedules costs me enough in tires), but I've heard they welcome outsiders too.
Hope this helps,

Thanks for the leads. We cheered on some of the hard core S2000 Auto-X drivers at TMS last year and had a great time. The SCCA officials invited us to run as well.
As for Pennington Field the major attraction is the nearby location. I have good contacts at TMS and could very well put something together there for the club. We will be in discussions about at least three club events and club participation in other events.
Thanks again,
Stefan

Stefan- be wary of this guy. He drives a Miata... up to no good!
Who normally checks with Manskey on the MW surface availability? I've got his number, but have never gotten hold of him. For some reason the BMW guys have an easy time.
David (TypeSH) is NTPOG's current Events Coordinator (Iain happens to be the former one
) and as a kind-of-NTPOG member I know we'd love to do an NTPOG/S2 autocross. If there's anyone who's already been delegated "racing" or "event" director, they may want to get with David about setting up an NTPOG event. Or me, I talk to David a fair bit.

Marcucci's just jealous 'cause I'm faster than he is, even in his fancy roadster. (Just kidding, buddy)
Actually, I'm sure if you set something up, Todd and I could guarantee a minimum of 1/2 dozen extra participants to spread the cost around... although most of 'em don't drive Hondas anymore...
BTW, I love that pic of Heisenberg you're using as your avatar - that's a great shot of him!

I've only called Bob a few times but haven't had any trouble reaching him about MW. Elistan scheduled the site twice last year and it remains on the list for future events. There will be further discussion on Friday night.
