Default Rock chips from MW

I was scrubbing the cone juice off of my doors this afternoon, and noticed that the bottom of the front quarter panels and doors have hundreds (or thousands) of rock chips. The curved "lip" has probably 50 chips per square inch. Is this a Mineral Wells thing, r-compound tire thing, or just an S2000 thing? I can't think of a way to prevent this, unless I just cover it all with tape or something.

Mineral Well's crap surface is the main culprit and R-compound tires don't help. I told you that exact same thing happened to my Prelude and that is why I religiously put tape on my S2000 out in MW.

I haven't seen anyone tape this area.

This is the area I'm talking about. I have chips extending most the way down the doors.

Nope I don't tape that area and I don't have any chips there. However I have not done any of Gernby's signature 1080's either

When I had the 3M clear film installed on the front of the car, I had them make custom pieces for this area. They put it on the rolled up edge on the fenders and doors.

Works Great!

There are WAY too many chips to be from my 1080's. I think it must be because of the R compounds. The Kumho's throw rocks up at the side mirrors at 20 MPH.

I don't think I've ever seen the 3M film. I will probably just deal with it, or start taping it up.

I have billions and billions of chips all over the place. MW, TWS, MSR, Hill Country, I35, etc. etc. etc.

Next car, I'm trying the clear film stuff.

Another reason to make sure the next course encompasses the long straight instead of the very rocky infield. : )
