He bought the STi late last year after melting a piston in the wagon.

I had the pleasure of riding along with him for a few laps at one of the PCA time trials, when the car barely had 1000 miles on it. I've got to say, I'm amazed that you can buy that much car off the showroom floor these days for less than $30k. It's quite an impressive piece of machinery.

less than $30K? Have you checked the price on these lately? Sticker is over $32K... So I wouldn't really say it is under $30K... I know you CAN get them for that much, but I don't think what I CAN get a car for is a very good way to compare them

Subaru may list the MSRP of the STi as $31,120 (not "over $32k", since you want to split hairs ) , but I've seen more than one dealer advertising them for $28,995. So, as far as I'm concerned, it's a car you can buy off the showroom floor for less than $30k (not including tt&l).

You could pay MSRP for one if you really wanted, but you'd be an idiot, in my not-so-humble opinion.

If you don't mind, what dealer have you seen them listed at $28,995?

I'm signed up and ready to go !

I probably just missed it, but there didn't seem to be any mention of the "Tech Form". I'm assuming you would still like us to fill one out and put it on our windshield (under the wiper) once we are at the event -- sort of a "self tech". Any link to the form (so I can bring a copy with me)?

Lastly, I was disappointed to read the change in your classification policy:

Points: The club will award points during each of the five autocrosses with a final championship being awarded at the end of the season. The cars will be divided into two classes to provide reasonable competition. The default classes are S2000 Street and S2000 Race. (The only differentiation being R-compound tire choice.)

Classification of other models will be based on attendance. A quota of at least five of a particular model is required for points to be awarded at an event. Tire choice will only be a factor if there are five each of street and race tired cars. In order for a championship to be awarded, at least 75% of the events need to meet the quota.
Last year (2003) you had two pre-established classes for Miatas -- R-compound and non R-compound. Now it looks like we'll have to "qualify". Why the change in policy? Do you not like us Miata Pilots anymore? Although we had 44 cars at NTS2KOC events throughout the season, we would not have qualified for year-end trophies under the new rules.

Whoops, I misquoted the price. It's actually $28,695. At least, that's what Premier Subaru in Conneticut has them listed for in the Autoweek classifieds. Ironically, they aren't listed at that price on their webpage, but check page 27 of the latest Autoweek or, according to the ad, "call Stan at Premier Subaru at (800) 411-4551.

I've also seen listed prices below $30k from other dealers, but I can't remember where off the top of my head.

Side note to Kestrel: Told ya so!
