Default Speeding tickets

Long story short, I got a speeding ticket on 114 in Irving, non construction area on 2/27/12 (77MPH on a 60MPH). March 7, I got an email from Irving Municipal Court that they accepted my plea for Deferred Disposition. I signed and faxed my paperwork to them today. Now for the kicker, yesterday as I was leaving work, I get pulled over in Westlake. Cop told me I was traveling 77MPH in a 65MPH and wrote me up for a ticket.

What is the best thing to do? Can I postpone my ticket in Westlake by going to the court house. I read on another forum to come in wearing shorts, slippers, and T-shirt and that the Judge will tell you to come back wearing pants. And then on the next court appearance to come in wearing pants and tell them I want to get a lawyer. Anyways, I'm not sure how fast they process court dates here in Westlake, TX.

With that being said, I still need to wait out 90 days. Can a lawyer postpone my court date that long? And if I can get it waited out 90 days, will I have the option to do a Deferred Disposition for another 90 days. I'm trying to keep this under the radar from my wife and of course the insurance company. This is the most tickets I got in a weeks span.

I also since both tickets states I was going 77MPH, do you think I can plea a case that my speedometer is possibly broken and want to get it checked out. I know that changing the final gear will offset the MPH.

Finally, if any of you know any cheap good lawyers please let me know. I did a couple of google searches but haven't committed to one. I figure going into court playing dumb is my best bet and ask to seek an attorney.

Ask for a trial by jury and not only will they postpone it far into the future, they'll more likely work out a deal to avoid having to take it to trial since it'll cost them more than what they're seeking.

I used a lawyer once and the only upside was I didn't have to physically have to show up to fight it (for the record, the cop said he clocked me going 42 in a 30 when I was going no more than 37), but all he got me was deferred (which I could've done myself since I had no outstanding tickets) and stuck paying their fee. On top of that, the mother f@#ker neglected to send me this information and the fact that I had a payment due to the city of Dallas until a week before it was due.

Thanks for the advise. I read this from a google search. I hope my 90 defer goes under the radar when I go to court the first time. If anyone else knows any tips let me know.

Whenever I get speeding tickets, they always seem to come in two's so I usually do Deferred Disposition for one and Defensive Driving for the other. Since I'm under 25, they require that I take a 6-hour defensive driving class for each incident.

However, the catch is that you can't have already taken a defensive driving course in the past 6 months. So if you're "lucky" enough to get two tickets back-to-back, you can have both off your record.

Defensive Driving isn't as bad anymore with the introduction of online courses. I've done it online so many times at this one website that I remember all the answers. There's nothing like popping open a cold bottle of beer at home learning about the dangers to driving under the influence.

Off topic: Are cops in Richardson switching over to lasers?

You can get deferred again as long as it's a different county I believe. But like stated above they don't really check. I did deferred before and they require you to take a defensive driving course also if your under 25, but I never completed the DD and it was still off my record.

I have escort 9500, but at over 100MPH you can only slow down so much. Left work yesterday and of course that same cop was waiting for me on 114. I think I'll try and wait out my first 90 day defer. Go to court see if they will drop it to a non moving violation and if they don't, I'll tell them I want to be represented by a lawyer. I don't mind paying the money but don't want any points.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll try and slow it down.

Yea, (good) Radar detectors work but only to a certain degree, if you are going 100 in a 60 then you will get caught speeding, however, you will be able to slow down and only get nailed for say 80 in a 60 which equals reduced fine. I just got pulled over for the 1st time by a State trooper for no rear license plate bulb, he cited me for expired inspection. Thing is I was going 65 in a 65 when I passed him, but before my radar started going off (Ka band) I was going 80-85!!!

Okay, I spoke to couple of lawyers and a Dallas cop and they said they dont usually check other counties records. But to play it safe, I got my court date extended out passed 90 days so that I will no longer be under deferred disposition when I go to court next time. So now if I ask for a deferred disposition, it shouldn't flag the original one I got in Dallas county. I did notice that the judge did ask about other peoples previous records, and tried to find out when their last ticket was. As for a charge, I will be charged on date of conviction not the date I got the ticket right? Anyways, thanks for everyones advice. I'll keep you all posted with my results after court.
