It's everything I've ever wanted in a Porsche. (Well, except the Carrera GT. ) But it's out in El Paso, and the price! I'd have to finance, in fact all 993 CS prices are crazy. Way more than the ~$35k I see KBB and Edmunds "estimate." They're nearly at what they retailed for when new. What's going on?

Whoa! You can Get a 2005 997 Carrera S for around $72K vs. that 8 year old car. or an '05 911 for $64K just as easily. Plus they're not air cooled...

There is no freaking way i would do that. If I absolutely had to have a Pcar in the 50K range I would go with a new Boxter S or Cayman S. Their performance would be equal to but probably greater than that old of 911 and if you have to finance anyway the rate will be better and have more options on the term on the new car plus you get the all important Porsche warranty. I was searching cars int he 50K range about a year ago and you know what I did. No regrets on the C6 after driving everything in that price range new and used. If the new Z4M coupe was available when I bought the C6 I would have seriously considered that as well.

Well, you know I love the CS. I searched for a few weeks a while back and just couldn't bring myself to pay the kind of $$$ they are apparently bringing. Dunno, maybe it's one of those cars that will continue to become more valuable with time?

Knowing you, you're going to want to drive it, track it, and put some miles on it. Not sure if that's the perfect car for the job. For $40K there's the Elise plus the Tripoint supercharger at $6,500 installed. Near supercar performance, Lotus heritage, exotic look, and a warranty. Just another thought.

I don't think anyone can say that Boxster S or Cayman comes anywhere near that 993 in the looks department though. I don't think porsche had made a better looking model since the 993.

Yeah, it's hot.. but not $50K worth of hot.

I, too, dream of owning a P-car, but as yet haven't been able to bring myself to buy one. Like David said, I'd want it to be an almost-dedicated track car, because that's where Porsches belong... but I couldn't put a $80K car on the track... especially considering I'd still be making (hefty) payments on it.

Screw it! Just do it! You only live once and you can't take it with you. It's only money - you can make more tomorrow!

P.S. Can I take it for a drive when you get it!?!?

Mark - that's a badass looking car, but it is over priced. You can get a much newer car for less money.

Personally, I gave up on ever owning a German car after talking to people I knew that have owned them. As you may remember from our previous conversations, I probably told you how bad I wanted a Boxter, after seeing your dad's car.

Something about spending $500 bucks to get a something as simple as a sensor light turned off at the dealer is what made my S2000 choice simple.

Still, check out a few of these cars:

2001 Carerra 1

2001 Carerra 2

PS: Do you really need to buy that much faster of a car to keep up with Egothreat?
