Well, I agree with all the criticism, but I can't justify giving any myself. The only times I've gone 135+ in my car were when I was heavily drunk. I have deserved worse than this many times over.

I just want to state again that it was monday night and there was not a single tail light in view. With a big v8 next to me revving his engine over and over, thats tempting for anyone (or at least for me). We punched it at 55mph and he took a car lenth, when we were approaching 100mph I saw that I was slowly catching and got caught up in the moment, that is why I did not take my foot off the pedal. I agree 135 is way too fast but I didnt even look at my speed once I started gaining. It was a stupid mistake and I paid for it.

Question: If my insurance does cover it, I was told that I have first rights to buy it back when they get done with it. Does anyone have any idea if they try to get top dollar for it or do they let it go for cheap?

In the past, insurance settlements are usually around 20% unless they have history of sales to prove they sell for more.

Eg: my motorcycle was 1800 of a 6500 claim. (wrecker driver opened the door on me and F250 ran over my back) I still don't remember that one. However, I tossed a bike on the ground about 70 once and was more pissed off from the torn up jacket, boots, pants and bike than the bruises I got :-/ I can relate to the bike accident. Not riding them anymore has been the hardest thing I have had to do in quite some time.

Anyway, bring the new car out to the event on the 23rd(?) We'll give it a proper break in I *hope* to be breaking my new engine in that weekend.

You are probably okay with your insurance company. Your finance company also has a say in the matter. I know people who have wrecked their cars on the track at motorsport ranch and had their insurance cover it... THere was also a girl who had hte insurance company pick their car up at texas motorplex after she bounced it off the walls 3-4 times. They also covered it in full.

This street racing crap is getting out of control. I don't care if it apprears you have a clear road ahead - at those speeds things come on pretty damn fast. Leave it on the flippin track!

A buddy of mine was visiting his daughter in Knoxeville and they were in his rental Alero. He pulled up at a light next to some kid in a riced-out import and jokingly started reving the engine. The kid took off but my buddy met up with him at the next light. Again, just to mess with him he started reving his Alero. This kid actually reached over to the passenger seat and put on a friggin helmet!!! The light changed and he took off like a bat out of hell.

What ever happened to self control? Yes, I own a sports car. Yes, I exceed the speed limit at times. I have not had a speeding ticket in 15 years though - I'm careful and observant (and the V1 does help).
NO - I have not and never will street race - it's just stupid! I've seen too many bad things happen to good friends in my life and I don't have to prove anything to myself or anyone else in terms of the capabilities of my car or my driving skills. I love driving the S2000 and that's all that matters.

Sorry for the rant but that's how I feel about it. I'm glad you're OK JerryinS2K and I hope you've learned something from this. You may be young (as you said) but I hope you think about the big picture the next time somebody tries to take you on.

I know who it is as well and I will tell you off the board, David. He does not care for it to be public knowledge.

The "no traffic" argument doesn't hold water. Even on the GB. It will take you upwards of a mile to stop moving when going 130mph if you were to lose control; that's plenty of distance to, say, go through a fence into someone's yard or hurtle over a barrier into oncoming traffic. I know someone that managed to flip a car end-over-end 3 times while not going more than 70mph. A lot can happen and despite how much control you THINK you have it can be taken away in an instant.

I find that most of the people that pull stunts on the street haven't been to a road course. It's a good way to get it out of your system. Having and S2k, you have no excuse to not do it- if you have the money for an S2k you have the money for the track.

Re the insurance Q, AFIK the insurance company has the right to sell the vehicle to whoever they want which will probably be the highest bidder. Depending on the extent of damage a yard or you might not want to bother with it. Given what S2k engines and transmissions sell for, and what body repair costs are, you would be better off trying to buy a used one rather than resurrecting yours, even if it were to gut it for the track. A yard can turn about $5-$7k in sales off an S2k with a bad body without blinking. They would be lucky to get half that for any other Honda.

I won't post on here like I'm completely innocent.

I drive fast, and I enjoy driving fast in the S2000. But where do I drive fast? The tollway between the hours of 4am and 6am. I have to go to work very early sometimes, and during those hours, the tollway is a ghost town. There are also concrete walls on both sides that would keep me away from oncoming traffic if I were to lose control, and they would possibly save me too.

I have driven over 110mph several times, 120mph to 130mph a few times, and 155mph once. You wouldn't believe how un-nerving it was and how much concentration it took. It's complete sensory overload. You are trying to listen to sounds, trying to feel the road, trying not to hit any reflectors on the road (possibility of destroying your tires), you are trying to look about a half a mile ahead of you, watching your gauges, etc. the list just goes on. And then the though of what would happen if one of your tires blew out. (that's when I slow down)

But to have to go at that speed and also watch another car that you are racing,......just stupid.

marcucci- you said a yard can turn about $5-$7k in sales off an S2k with a bad body without blinking. Thats what I plan on doing. I want to buy it and part it out completely. I think I could make a few bucks off of it.

Good luck in what ever you do, and it's good that you didn't injure yourself any worse or injure anyone else.

What body parts are still ok to sell? Did you have a spoiler? And is the hood ok? Can the local guys have first dibs on what ou are selling?

(damn, .....I sound like a vulture)
