VAFC-II tuners
Hey guys, Michael from the Ark-La-Tex forum. Me and another guy both have recently bought Apex V-AFCII and are looking to get them tuned before TDE on March 30th. We have looked at Alamoautosports in Arlington. Is Alamo a trusted/recommended company? They charge $150 per hour, and they told me it would take about 1 - 1.5 hours to tune.
Does anyone have any tuners that they would recommend over Alamo or are they the best?
Thanks a lot in advance guys!
Michael

I've seen Alamo dick some stuff up, but it's been a few years. Not sure how they are right now.
Tony at T1R is flat out the best tuner there is in the area. He's expensive, though. Call him at 214-868-8799 for his location (don't have it off the top of my head).
For a VAFC, though, you aren't looking at rocket science. I would tune the thing for a flat AFR and not be too concerned about multiple dyno pulls to eke out a 8WHP gain over a 7WHP gain. Anyone that's tuned an S2k before should be able to do it in just a couple of pulls unless you have some wacky mods.

Thanks a lot for the info marcucci. I will give Tony a call tomorrow. Hope he can do it. We will only be able to make it on Friday March 30th on our way to TDE.
BTW, anyone from here going to TDE at Motorsport Ranch in Ft. Worth March 30-April 1?

Thanks so much for the info guys.
One more question, then I will leave yall alone. I have an appointment with Tony on friday March 30th. How many dyno pulls should I expect? How much HP should he be able to get with the mods I have in my sig?
Thanks a lot!

T1R exhaust, test pipe, and K&N FIPK intake? That's it?
On a 2000, I would expect no more than maybe 10WHP if the plugs and valve adjustment is good. That might be pushing it. I'd expect at least 5WHP.
Tony should be able to knock it out in just a couple, maybe 3 or 4 pulls. There's not much to do w/the VAFC 2, just removing some fuel and making sure that nothing (like timing) gets disturbed with the removed fuel.
Keep in mind that Tony charges around $100 an hour for his time and I would wager that you will be in for at least an hour. Shouldn't be more than 2.

Good choice on T1, he did a friend's 500 whp turbo civic (back when he was still at Jotech) and recently did another friend's 400 whp GT35R Evo. I would say you could probably do it yourself, I had no problems tuning a VAFC1 on my turbo civic even with 450CC DSM injectors in a car that came with 1XXCC.

on a 2000, you can probably get *around* 15+ whp peak, as they run EXTREMELY rich near the top of the powerband

From what I've read, on top of other mods. I'm not the end all and be all, but I read about modding s2000's and what results people have gotten on theirs about 4 hours a day at work.
