The weather isn't the problem in October Mark ( I have been swimming in the sea off a boat in October before in the highlands), rather the lack of daylight - the distances can be extensive, and deer me at dusk and in the dark up there (potential for "group buy" on CC's list ).
September is a relatively quiet period at work for me, plus the schools have gone back, and half terms haven't started yet - ideal for uninterrupted .
It'll only possibly be the same weekend as MM if no-one from England is interested in coming for whatever reason - it is a long way (Inverness is a 6 hour drive from Blurtermeet for example).

My mate used to windsurf on a Sunday morn after a bevvy sesh the night before... in the firth of clyde!
