Be smart and have all 3 sizes

I have 16",17" & 18"

The 18" look the best - but the are for show, cause if you really push the car, they do rub.

The lack of ride quality would put me straight off. The S is not known for its comfort in the first place. I think 18's do look good though but any bigger would look plain ridic. Some 18inch LM's from over the pond below.

17" LM's would make a great compromise

That siverslow looks good on the 18's though

^^^ That silver looks like 19"s and far too lowered imo.
Completely unusable on the UK roads.

Anyway ... OT .

Ask yourself, what do you use the car for?
1) Do you want to enter race competitions on the track and squeeze the fastest times you can get out of it?
Or
2) Do you want to wash it, love it, look at it, and take it out for a Sunday afternoon cruise (albeit spirited) round the countryside.

If it's 2 ... stick with the 18"s
Forget what the purists say, it looks MUCH better

imho of course.

Even with the "reduced performance" of the 18's, the car is still far more capable then me.

18s for me. Im thinking of changing to OEM 04+ 17s though, for performance reasons.

Is there really that much of a difference performance wise?and i wonder what effect,if any, does 18s have on a speedo?? i would have thought that with more rubber to the road the handling and grip would be better, but mine is very twitchy on the bends, someimes feels like its gonna let go and i wouldnt be pushing that hard then again, this is my first rear wheel drive car so im still grasping a feel for it

You must remember that if you change the diameter of the wheel you must also change the profile of the tyre. It is not advised to change the overall diameter of wheel plus tyre more than +- 2.5% I believe it is.
It WILL effect the speedo if you go too far, and probably the gearing as well, and you might get rubbing on the arches etc. do it right ... and you wont.

As for the back end... One thing I found is that with the lower profile tyres there is obviously less tyre wall and therefore less tyre roll and flex. I found this to equate to a "quicker" break of the rear end if provoking it. But it also felt more controllable ... does that make sense?
I'm no expert.

There is plenty of help to calculate the right tyre profile ...

Also ... I'd advise trying to get on a driver training day or a track day where you can get a feel for the backend without risking trying it on the roads.
It will make you feel more confident when you know what it is really capable of

Yeah i understand what your saying.I have 215/40/18 at the moment but im due a tyre change shortly, got a bargain with 4 215/35/18s fo less than 500 euro so im gonna stick them on.Unfortunatly there is very little options over here to bring your car to a track,as far as im awareThere is mondello, but iv been told theres not a whole load off run off space.Hopefully in the near future, get a ferry over to yee guys.Would like to bring my car to center gravity aswell, check its dialed in
