Default 1st to 2nd shift tight - when cold only

Hi guys,

is this a normal (ish) thing on the s2000 ?? it only ever happens when the car is cold... when up to normal temp the shift from 1st to 2nd is smooth... i woudln't say it crunches when cold.. more that its very stiff/tight...

would fresh gearbox/diff oil help or could it be something like the linkage being affected when the engine etc gets warm ??

Mark.

It's normal, new gearbox oil can definitely help a bit.

It is normal. Both of mine have done it to some degree, my new one more than the first. I just slow down the 1st to 2nd change until the gearbox oil has a bit of heat in it.

Or Redline gear oil, highly rated on some US threads.

Iv'e changed to this on my 02 and 04 S makes a difference.

But yes they are stiff when cold and I cant understand how
in the past the S2000 box has been rated the worlds best.
Its far from it, just good when warm.

As MT says "they all do that sir"
Hence why I get the dealer to do the gearbox and diff oil at EVERY service.
