Default 2002 vs 2001

Finding myself in the position of actually owning two S's at the same time, one in silverstone with black leather (2001) and a monte blue with black (2002), I thought I'd bore you with what I've noticed so far

Rear screen: the 2002 glass one is a vast improvement although smaller, the smaller size can make it difficult to see over your'e left shoulder. The 2001 plastic screen is fine if you have the rear shelf covered with a mat (muz or otherwise) to protect it from scratching and if you can keep it polished visibility is comparable to the glass one, albeit much bigger. Biggest difference is being able to see out the rear when reversing out of my drive at 6 in the morning as you cant squeegee the water that settles on the plastic screen...

Road holding: the 2002 is much much better, it seems so much more planted on the road, and I can put more gas down when coming out of corners than on the 2001. The 2001 is fantastic to drive but also made me ultra-cautious, the 2002 inspires more confidence (even with the badly worn boots that are on it)

Accelerating & braking: seems to be less travel in the accelerator pedal on the 2002 and require more effort to give it 'some', but brakes feel identical and are bloody marvellous

Comfort: My left leg always ends up resting against the centre console by the stereo, in the 2002 this is now padded and leather covered and my right elbow rests on a more padded bit on the drivers door now. Stupid small thing but makes being stuck on the M25 more bearable.

That bloody headlamp washer thing: has been moved in the 2002, which is great, no more showers, except the aftermarket clifford alarm led thing is where it used to be and keeps digging into my elbow.

Roof: the clips for the roof are a lot stronger on the 2002 and seem to be a slightly different design, that avoids scratching the the bit it clips into.

Looks: the chrome rings on the 2002 rear lights don't really do a lot for me, but the clear indicator looks great, inside the little tweaks made, such as the door handles, the dark silver trim and the reduced size of the metal thing round the gear stick (which also seems to be harder to scratch) have improved the inside a great deal, it now more kylie minogue than danni minogue

Digital display: its clearer and is a slightly different colour on the 2002

Stereo: Well I had an Alpine in the 2001 with the dash controls and an amp with some Lucid rears, so I was expecting the worse, but the stock one with the tweeters is not that bad, cant really hear it above 80, sounds a bit like a party next door. Need to get some rears put in and then see what it sounds like.

Colour: The silver is easy to own, it hides the dirt and looks good even when dirty, the monte looks absolutely stunning when polished but small scratches stand out like nipples on a cold day.

Thats all I've noticed since Saturday

Not boring at all, Scrooger - I was interested to see what the perceived differences are from someone who has driven both versions.

And that is a REALLY top-quality simile - I'll have to remember that one!

Could I ask if your 2001 had the revised geo settings and are they both on oem so2s? Im really interested to hear about these sorts of comparisons.

I have to agree with S200OAT, always get the feeling that you'd need to get down 'n dirty with Danni, which is also what you need to do with an '01

but Kylie has the nicest rear

both cars are on the the oem S02's, but the 2002's are very worn/slick, hence new set being fitted on Thursday.

No geo on 2001

2002 is going in for a geo next week as steering wheel is off alignment and tyres have worn unevenly

Both cars 32 psi all around

Whoa, boys - better throw a few "allegedlys" in there, in best "Have I Got News For You" fashion, to keep the libel lawyers at bay

I totaly agree with Scrooger on the verdict.

Only one thing to add the seats are better in the 00 than 02
