Default 2007 engine / sensor / valver cover differences

Hi Guys,

I have a problem. To cut a long story short, my engine blew up in my MY00 s2000. I managed to track down a 2007 engine with 6k on it. The engine arrived and looks clean. I was advised that the only difference was the drive by wire and the inlet manifold, which i plan to switch with my original and looks to be an easy swap.

The Problem?

We just noticed that there is only one engine sensor on the 2007 valve cover. The 2000 engine has 2. We had to lift the valve cover to see what differences lurk benieth. It would appear that the only visible difference are the timing sensor plate/disks that reside on the end of each cam. We have checked and these are interchangeable and therefore we could switch them and also the valve cover on the new engine to the old cover to match so that the original loom will plug in with no problems. Does anyone know if this would work?? Or if we are likeley to encounter any more problems?

I would really appreciate any help or if someone could point me in the direction of someone who may know.

Thanks

I'd post a link to the thread in the "under the hood" forum on the main site. Hopefully someone will know about the 06/F20C.

Good luck with the swap

Nicholas, as well as the different cam sensor and trigger wheel in the valve cover it also has a different TDC sensor and trigger wheel on the crank, which you should have on your new engine. Im not sure how the old ECU will deal with the new inputs though

Good luck, hope it works out.

lucky77... do you think it will be fine with the new 2007 crank, while only changing the 'crank pulser' becuase apparently the codes for the crank are different.

It should run fine on the old ecu as long as the right pulser and sensor is on it shouldn't it?

Nicholas, if the first 7 digits of the part numbers for the cranks are the same and only the last three digits differ e.g.

XXXX-XXX-001 and XXXX-XXX-003

this usually indicates a minor incremental improvement and not a totally different part, so should be ok.

If the part numbers are totally different you might have a problem....

HTH

Well the crank and the crank pulser have incremental number changes, but i have been told they are not the same i.e just new manufacturers etc' and that they are both slightly different parts. I think my only option now is to try and change the pulser and put the engine together and try it.

I have found a thread where americans have done just this with the f22c engine with f20c car and it has worked fine... so i am keeping my fingers crossed.
