There's a bit of the dual carrigway out of Banbury that has lots of horrible ruts in the road and once I nearly didn't stop before the roundabout because of the ABS took away all the braking power.

Clearly your second problem is brake fade, although quite how you've managed to get them smoking I don't know. Are they partly seized?
Yeah, I just find it weird that when I lifted off the brake 95% of the way, it kept the wheel locked....strange. But if others have noticed it

No, no seizure.

TBH, I really do think my pads are crap. Sure I was booting it, but I was pretty shocked at how much it took to kill them

Was very suprised at how hot the rears got too!

There's the answer right there!

Sounds to me like one channel went mental and you then got brake fade.
Maybe boiled the fluid givethe ABS pump a problem?

Decent pads, new RBF600 fluid and braided hoses! (no issues here!)

Haven't got to the brakes yet, but i'm sure the lack of grub screws would have halved my braking capacity!

What I did check when I was looking was the clearence between caliper and wheel. About 1.5"

If pads/discs don't work out (and I can't see any reason why they wont), at least I have space for BBK

BBK won't fit under OEM wheels though. Unless it's the Tarox.

abs will stay active until you completely release the brake pedal.

so if you get it to activate (I used to get it over wet ridges/manholes etc it stays on until the pedal was released.) just release and re apply .

second problem is unassociated.

most importantly the abs system is only as good as your tyres.
