ABS System
I have searched & read..........but I'm not convinced that my ABS is working although there are no warning lights up. My wifes Mazda3 sounds and feels like a machine gun when the ABS system is activated with no sign of the wheels skidding. I've hit the brakes on my S on a damp road and I'm convinced that the tyres are skidding and there is no physical or audible sign of any ABS being activated. Is there a correct way of testing the system apart from taking it to a dealer and how would they test it?
If your'e driving right, you shouldn't feel it at all.
A couple of clunks from the NSF on bumpy, slippery back roads at most.
If you want to test it, check the ABS light comes on at start-up. If not, there's something wrong. If it's lit whilst running, there's something wrong.
If you find a straight slippery road (easiest on cold tyres) CHECH THE MIRROR and brake like a jerk, you should be able to feel the juddering through the front wheels.
The S2000 is sensibly set up, and the system doesn't over-react like many crap cars, so it will allow a little wheel-slip before it goes off.

Does it only come into effect at a certain speed? I tried this on stock tyres when I first had the car to make sure they wouldn't lock up and they did (in the dry).. I wasn't doing more than about 20-25 when testing.. I do get the light at startup too..
I like to test it as with my 200SX even though I also got the ABS light at start up there was a time in the wet (very light rain but a damp road) where the fronts locked up under medium braking and the car slid atleast 8-10metres with no attempt of the ABS trying to save me.. And after testing it a few times it did the same.. that was with 225/45/18 Pirelli P Zero Neros

As mentioned, check that the ABS light is lit when the ingition (not engine) is on. On some cars it's not unknown for previous owners to remove bulbs from behind the dash.
I finally experienced the S2000 ABS properly on a North Weald day on Friday, and I was very pleased with it. Not intrusive and doesn't come on too early. Car was lovely and controllable with it on.

S2000 ABS to me is very very subtle compared to my old Focus which was VERY noticeable both audibly and on the pedal.
I have tested it in the S from 35 to a near dead stop, the back end stepped out a tiny amount but nothing major.
If you are used to intrusive and scare the crap out of you ABS feedback then you may not even notice it in the S, I certainly do not unless I am on the look out for it and it is rare for it to kick in unless there is some unexpected friction compromised surface.
