Ok some great info , thanks

so now I'm thinking decat ( already have a obd port thing , will check later it works )

uk exhaust mod 25-30mm

and then if wanting a bit more ( Chavy) noise then possible a k&n such as the above ? Thoughts on this or the longer ram aem one ?

Thanks

You don't need to spend anywhere near K&N money to add noise and if you take any of these things apart ( with the exception of the long arm AEM one) they are definitely more than the sum of their parts.

I'm still rocking this in mine. Elbow was part of a long gone PRM ( awful build quality) and the rest is parts bin stuff from a motorsport site. Cost me about £50 all in. Sounds as good as the K&N / short AEM and nearly as good as the PRM.

Without an ECU tune you'll see F'all gains in reality so it's noise / badge snobbery / pub bragging rights.

If you want noise, get a spoon N1 or j's racing! Best sounding exhausts I've ever owned!

As above, exhaust mod, decat & k&n intake, will make it feel more visceral to drive.

An ECU can release 20bhp in the midrange by having the ability to lower the VTEC engagement point by 2000rpm. It greatly fills out the power curve, but you loose the 6k kick, as it just makes the power curve completely linear. However, it is obviously expensive at around the £1k mark for a typical plug and play arrangement. The advantages are it future proofs any further mods you want to add, as you then have the ability to fine tune for any further upgrades.

The K&N doesn't sound chavvy!

Looks good. Sounds good

decat
exhaust mod

if i get the aem ecu would be i benifit from a proper exhaust system such as the miltek ?

The OEM exhaust is very difficult to improve upon and takes mega-bucks to do so, so I'd put the money elsewhere, the OEM system is already stainless. The only significant improvements to be had are with weight savings. The exhaust is one place where a poorly designed one can lose you power, so make your choice wisely (particularly where manifolds are concerned).

i would personally not go with AEM, as I have heard of several people having issues (losing info and random map changes).. I think the Haltech is a safer bet (or the Austrian one detailed in the ECU forum recommended by Ballade).

I've not had any issues with my AEM in 4 years (apart from 1 self inflicted) it's a decent unit for the money, but certainly not the high end of ECUs.
