Default Adding some drama to the s2k ?

Hi all ,

ive only had my s2k for around one month and in that month its been paint corrected and ceramic coated , wheels completley refurbed, new stereo, rear wheel arches rubbed down/ protected , ordered ohlins suspension , new matts, gear knob plus other bits and bobs ! I like to get on with things !

And that brings me to my next dilemma ....... Which ive been doing alot of reading about . I was dead set on supercharging as ive had this done before to a lovely 350z . But i think im rushing it a bit to be honest !! So ive come to the conclusion not to charge just yet . Maybe in the future , but we will see .

But i would still like to have/make a bit more drama from the s2k ........

What would you do ?

Obviously looking at induction kits and exhausts

I know that the induction kits dont net you any hp ...... But equally dont want to loose any . What would your recommemdations be ?

K&n with the shroud / case ? Pros i guess are easy to fit , no cutting of plastics ? Do you loose power with this set up ?

Aem v2? Pros ? Cons , harder to fit , have to chop some plastic liners , low mounting of filter ( hydrolocking ) ?

Then the exhaust..... After a subtle sound , nothing too loud , no drone

like the look of the miltek as it fits the above criteria and has the oval oem style tips ...... Opinions ?

Decat/hfc worth doing with the above ? Cel light issues ?

Will the exhaust / decat actually gain me any hp or are they done purley for noise? Im guessing to get the max out of the mods a tune/map would need to be done ? And i think im right in that i would need a new ecu to do so , as my car is an 04 plate ? Is this worth the hassle/ expense?

I know these topics have been covered alot but i would greatly appreciate peoples thoughts of the above and experiences with the products im looking at

thanks

the K&N is good (loud)

Fitting a de-cat will not only give the car more of a voice, but also release around 6bhp. I got a cheap 60mm resonated one for £60 off eBay. It is very thin wall. so if you do fit the rather heavy CEL defeat, you will need to reinforce the mounting flange.

This is what happened at a track day:

On the dyno so you can hear what it sounds like (not sure if you will be able to tell the difference with speakers, but is definitely noticeable direct to the human ear). You do three runs to warm all the fluids in the transmission up, as they normally make the best power on or around the third run, after which power starts to die off due to heat soak into the intake.
Before:

After:

The only downside is that even with a CEL defeat, the light will come on every now and again, but is so infrequent it isn't any bother - I purchased a £15 eBay OBD connector, which can reset the code from my phone in a matter of seconds.

If you want to give it more of a voice without drone, then you can do the "UK" exhaust mod - this bypasses some of the exhaust gasses from the twin pass silencer boxes and gives a lovely sound (especially with the de-cat) with zero drone. You can vary the loudness of this by changing the size of the bypass pipe. I went with just a 25mm one:

This is also supposed to gain 1-2bhp, but I did this before the dyno run.

You're actually wrong about the intake on an S2000, as a K&N is also supposed to give a few more bhp, as surprisingly (for a Honda) the standard airbox is actually restrictive. However, for me, the sound is just too "boy ricer" .

This is a test on an early car, which run more rich than the facelift cars, so it might not be as affective on a post 2004 car.

This is a useful thread for some comparable dyno figures, several cars with different specs all run on a the same day on the same dyno: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela.../#post22471597

It's worth remembering that 5-10bhp on a dyno makes almost no difference in terms of actual performance. A better performance measurement is using a datalogger of some sort.

And you are lighter and with a better driver - but none of those mods cost 20 quid

If you want drama, fit shit tyres and lift off / stamp on throttle half way around sharp corners or on roundabouts ......
