Thumbs up Advice needed on Cat-D S2000

Hey all

I'm new on here and currently looking for a 04 or 05 S2000 GT in Moonrock.

I have found the following car, but have some concerns:

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...cleRegLetter=05

The owner has said it was crashed by a Honda mechanic in April this year and then repaired by Honda. I have put the Reg number into the insurance database and it has come back as uninsured. I then did an RAC HPI check and the car is recorded as Cat D damaged and repaired. It states 'VRM recorded as a total loss by an insurance company'.

I'm guessing it may relate to Honda's insurance if they crashed it? I don't understand why if it was a total loss, Honda didn't have to replace the car completely.

Do any of you have experience of owning or buying a Cat D car, or work in insurance? I would get a full inspection done before buying to make sure nothing is bent, but I'm still wary of the insurance situation etc.

Thanks

Rich

The ad states:

'Had light damage on the front bumper and wing, whilst at the dealers for a service by the incompetent mechanic'

HTF can 'light damage' be cat D?

Too expensive and the history too iffy.

WALK AWAY. FAST.

Wrong forum.

Moved to the main S2000 forum, where it will undoubtedly get more considered replies than in Off Topic!

Lots of S2000s out there...too many to warrant looking at this one seriously.

Hi,

Cat D's have been discussed on here many many times.

In the search button top right hand side - type in CAT D
You can hear all the pearls of wisdom.

But a 1 liner summary - Walk away.

Too expensive for a Cat D.

It should be going for around 8.5-10K IMO regardless of mileage / condition.

I wouldnt touch it with one of Carper's fishing rods.

Walk away. If you're going to keep the car until its worn out then it might be worth it. Otherwise you're going to have a ownership experience full of insurance hassle and justification of the condition of your car.

Have a nice view of the grand union canal from where you work?

Total loss just means that the insurance has paid out. Cat D minor damage cat C more than half value of car to repair. Nothing wrong with buying cat c's or d's but the price should be 25% less as if you wright it off again the insure company will give you 25% less than market value. Although I say cat c's and d's are ok I would stay clear of the s2000 and other such sports cars as they have very sensetive chassis and the people that usually repair them to sell do it as cheap as possible.

I wouldn't pay that for a non-accident damaged 05.
