Default Ah the joys of rusty rear arches - now fixed!

Just been for a few quotes to have 2 rusty rear arches sorted out along with a rear bumper respray and repair (cracked one side) - all 3 quotes have come back at £800 - ouch!!

I could get someone at work to do it for about half the price aka mates rates but it will mean having to wait till he can fit me in and faffing around with helping him do the prep work.

So I have decided to bite the bullet and to get it done for £800 - sounds a lot but I bought the car for peanuts and with this cost added into the purchase price it's still well under what they fetch on the market.

Anyone else had rear arches done? I'd be interested to see what quotes you had and prices you've paid.

I paid £1000 for both arches being replaced with a double skin repair and a rear half respray.

I would be happy with that price to be honest.

Booked it in to have the work done - might as well otherwise it will get worse and I will have no arches left which will result in even more money - car going in on Tuesday, will take 3 days!

£900 for me, sort out my rear arches and any other rust about, refit my bumpers and take out the dent caused by a daft old twat, refit my headlights properly (again from the daft old sod who reversed into me) and paint the whole car (including my pink 14 year old wing mirrors) so that each panel matches and looks like new again. My car went in Monday so I'm waiting to get it back.

Where are you guys taking your cars for this? I need to get mine done and ideally I'd like the rust cut out and new sections welded in.

^^^ where are you located?

Mine will be having material welded in because by the time the rust has been removed there won't be much metal left over.

I paid £400 each side to sort out some arsehole's key marks down the length of the car and to have the rusty arches sorted... (cut out, welded, repaired)

However, even though I thought he was a good painter, less than a year later, bubbles are showing again. So, he may have had pin holes in the weld, or maybe he fibreglassed it? Who knows.

You get what you pay for, and I'll be going to someone else next time to have it sorted out properly!
