Really interesting thread this one.

Nice one mate and its really nice reading about differences from your guys setups.

Various ECU differences/vtec points (from manu to manu) seem rather interesting as well.

Aj one more question, when you had the gears on the car(dont know if you still do), you ever raced a stock geared one for a 1/4mile race? One member at the Greek Community insists that the stock will eventually pass first!

I spoke with the guys that run the place where we went for the dyno day before Christmas.

No never did a 1/4mile I have had a bash against a stock one but not 1/4mile it was a different scenario but this was with hardly any bolt on's.

I cant see the the stock one passing a standard unless they carried on past 145mph or whatever ratio the geared S has or he didnt launch correctly etc. Bear in mind for example the top speed in geared cars for each gear is lower, mine now revs to 9200 but i wont be going near that really.

There is a famous video on here with a race, the geared one backs off at the end so maybe that where the guy has got the idea from.

1/4 seem to trap at 100 odd mph.

As i said before when i spoke to you its lean for a short period, if you are concerned go to Dastek providing they can tune DBW cars, if they go manipulate the MAP sensor i dont know.
The thing being that I drove Useful's car so as to compare a stock ish setup to mine and really could not feel any real world difference when I drove it the way I normaly do. Which makes me think I should just get over it and enjoy it with OEM parts.

I'm kind of mid way through the stages that you've now completed but it's important to me to keep the safety margins. I spoke to Dastek and lost a bit of confidence with them, they've changed hands, no longer in Fife. They think they have a soulution and plug in harness but they never got back to me.

STOP THE MODS and buy a new carpet.

And there-in lies a problem feeling a real world difference , i have experienced the same in the past , you need to ask yourself can your really feel that 5bhp difference?

I drove a members car on here about 4 month ago and he drove mine, we both noticed a definite difference between them.

He had aftermarket dual exhaust and decat with aem v1, i had gears, manifold, k&n fipk, spoon ecu, dual exhaust, decat.

Steve pearson can vouch for this, he said mine 'Rev better/faster, the throttle response is better and it just pulls harder but no real vtec kick'.

A 10bhp increase from just a singlepipe and vafc2 seems good, with other bits more could be gained.

Which i why i believe it is possible to get moderate gains as i have seen, I've done every bolt on and have a J's ECU IMHO is the best pnp one.
Tuneable you see.

I don't see the point on spending a fortune on an ECU that is a slightly tweaked stock unit.

Get something you can actually map.

At the end of the day, NA mods are a bit pointless though

I have to agree Bibbs; you can spend the same money to shave tenths of a second, or tenths on a minute!

I'm inclined to agree with you 'somewhat', more so on this car.

In fact if i had to choose one thing to do to the car, it would be the gears.

I looked at the NA mods, but the time you add in cams, valves, intakes etc .. it's a fair amount. For so little gain.

Supercharger is just easy, the engine takes it, and it doesn't change the character.

I couldn't do gears, at the time having a top end of 180 was important for motorway cruising. Dropping the limit to 150 would have been a nightmare. If anything, I'd have gone for longer gears to up the top end.
(there is a video on youTube of a guy hitting the limiter in 6th with a blower).
