Default Alloy Wheel Cleaning

My daughters old but reliable Nissan Primera (a great beater) has alloy wheels which are original. I think it would be ashame to get rid of them but they are old, tatty and one of them has a slow puncture now caused by the tyre bead not sitting down properly hence slow leak from around the join. What is the best thing to do? If I get them cleaned/polished would this stop the leak? Can you do them yourself? Would it be cheaper and easier to go to the scrap yard and buy some steel wheels? Some of the Primeras had steel wheels I think. I know Halfords do cheap wheels and tyres but I'm told they are poor and are easily damaged.

I believe that wheel re-furb costs about

Prices about right for re-furbs, yes Primeras came with steel or alloy wheels, and there should be plenty in salvage yards so why not just change the one thats leaking?

yeah.. the puncture repair way works usually.. you could always get tyre guys to remove the tyres and clean up the wheels yourself with a light sand and a bit of ally primer? they can seal em back on with some black gunk. had the problem on my old astra gte and it did come back eventually. powder coatin is the long term fix. go on, treat her
