Default Alpine adaptor for in dash controls '02 model

Guys

I need a bit of help

I have an Alpine head unit plus a set of DDDrive components (for the front) plus DDDrive three ways (for the rear) powered from a Alpine F407 amp with a 12 disc Alpine multi changer. All this I saved from my last car before I took ownership of the S.
Now I have an '02 S and wish to retain the dash controls. Alpine make an adaptor KEC 685B I think, that worked on the pre-02 models, but has anyone successfully installed this on the 02: I don't know if there are any changes but thought, as the head unit and speakers have been changed on the 02, that I would check.

PS wish me luck with the installation as I am really daunted by the thought of dismantling the trim (I wonder how many annoying rattles I will get after that!)

Chris

PS does anyone have the Alpine MD head unit and tuner. Does this have control facility for a CD multichanger ? If so, how do you rate it ?

I'm betting that the KCE-865B will work just fine - others have fitted 02 headunits to earlier cars without a problem so the control output resistances must be the same.

Good luck with the install, I can't wait to hear it

Yep, the KCE-865B works just fine with the 02 dash controls - Dog Biscuit has one in his 02

Thanks Guys
I knew I could count on one of you knowing about this.

I'll let you know how the install goes.

I have an 02 S2k for 2 months now and installed an Alpine MP3 head unit with the 865B adaptor - and I do encounter the known problem of the not working mute-button.

No idea how to fix the problem - just tried with the relay - but without success.

Now I tried to reinstall my original Honda headunit and did encounter the same problem with this unit - mute-button not working anymore and mute-function when turning on the lights.

Alpine techn support in Switzerland is all but helpful in this matter. Their argument is that the adaptor is in their list for 99 to 00 models of the s2k - and not for actual ones. .........

Hi Nightshade one

Are you absolutely sure your interface unit is the 865B? (not just an 865)

The 'B' suffix was added to indicate a 'bug' fix in the original units - I harassed Alpine UK until they conceded there was a problem (ie the mute operated when the cars headlights where turned on ) - the unit was therefore modified and all future units assigned a B suffix.

As has been mentioned in this thread, the 865B works fine on all model years (including the 02) - anyone saying otherwise is talking nonsense (I am feeling especially polite this morning )

Hope this helps

Ian

Hi Nightshade,

1st thing to check: is the black and pink wire on the KCE-865B connected to the same colour wire in the headunit loom? This is the cellular phone mute connector that is used as the interupt/mute signal
