Default Alpine woe and frustration

Woe:

My KCE-865B interface has started playing up - about 25 min's into journeys I am loosing use of the dash controls I tend to have the heating blasting away at the moment to clear the windscreen and prevent frostbite when the top is down - I wonder whether the unit is getting too hot - do the heating ducts run in the area behind the head unit??? Tif?? Any other suggestions?

Frustration:

I have the 7373r head unit which, in common with many other Alpine units, has the tiltable front face - I like to have this tilted 1 step up when I am driving, however, when the power is cut to the unit (ie when the ignition is turned off) there is a 30 second delay before the panel retracts and it is possible to close the stereo compartment flap. The alternative seems to be to press the angle ajust button 3 or 4 times until the panel is in the vertical position again. Am I missing something here? - is there a way to persuade it to retract both automatically and instantly at 'power off' - I can see absolutely no point in the 30 second delay whatsoever

You could be right about the heat Ian, I know when I did my install it was pretty cramped in there with the heater vents, SRS box of tricks, etc. and the interface isn't the smallest of items along with 2 full ICE looms! I positioned mine deep into the car, nearly against the bulkhead and haven't had any problems (and the 7878 got plenty hot on the 4 hour drive to and from the meet on Sunday!)

If I had to point to a problem I'd suggest checking the 3.5mm control jack from the interface is still firmly into the back of the head unit - I know on the 7878 it didn't have a particularly "solid" feel to the fit...

You think you have problems with the tilting face on the 7373?? The auto retract facility was dropped from the 7878 after the manual had been printed (it was mentioned on a little adendum slip) so I have to go through the 3 or 4 button press routine As far as I know you are stuck with that 30s delay

Hmmmm...I thought I might be - this really is the most stupid piece of functionality - why 30 seconds - what possible use can this be to anybody????? Maybe that is why they have deleted it from the 7878?????

Might be worth trying to insulate. I've not seen back there, but the panels around the heater and stereo controls get very warm/hot to the touch after a reasonable drive. Remember the gearbox is pretty much underneath the stereo, and the engine is just in front.

ianl,

I would assume that it is a minor wiring issue. As has already been mentioned, it is a tight fit behind the headset with all the cables. I had to practically force the headset in after installing the KCE-865B, and wouldn't be surprised if something worked its way loose before too long.

Best of luck with solving the problem.
