Works fine for me (now) on the 3G model. Get the latest firmware from Apple on your phone then try it again, has fixed all the issues I had with the unit crashing. You still get the incompatible message and scrolling through the library isnt as quick as my nano but it works fine and charges too.

Good news, looking to upgrade my phone to an 'I-phone' soon and was wondering if the IDA-X100 was going to be compatible!
