Default Another Problem!

I am realy not having any luck with my S. I have only had it for about 3 weeks and already i have had to replace the diff and the rear screen.

Now it seems the rear callipers hae seized. I am noticing it pulling a slight bit when accelerating first off lights or when stoping if im going slow enough the car stops itself.

Now we checked the handbrake was not over tightend and also tried to twist the piston back in with the proper tool but it wont budge.

Is this a common fault on these as i was talking to another s2k owner his front caliper seized a while back?

To check it is the brakes that are causing it i removed the caliper and that free'd up the disk a bit.

Anyone any suggestions on how it might be sorted or will i just have to get myself a new set of callipers or is that even the problem?

Cheers,

Peter

My car does exactly this, I thought nothing of it. Ignorance is bliss

I did find it strange that the car did not roll as much when coming to a stop compared to other cars. Also it will not roll back when stopped on a slight incline, I thought it was something to do with the drive being at the rear, but what do I know

I've replaced a rear caliper, it does seem to be a pretty common problem. Usually near side, 'cos that picks up most wet and muck from gutter I guess.

You can usually get away with it for a bit by cleaning up etc, but I expect longer term it will return. If left it will start to bind and trash pads / discs which can get a bit more expensive.

Sorry to hear you're having a bit of bad luck with your car. Mine is going to need a hood sometime and the old buzzy clutch drives me to distraction. I may as well go back to old Triumphs!....

Its a common problem. I have had to replace all 4. They're not cheap new from Honda so I would try to get some refurbished ones.

Not much to go wrong in a caliper tbh, very simple animals.
The pistons sieze or corrode and get pitted, sometimes this will trash the seals.
Keep them clean and service the car.

USE THE CAR.

Trouble is, people mince about in them and then leave them unused for weeks on end. The car needs to be driven!

well it has been used everday in my 3 week ownership so far, i cant speak for the previous owner so not sure if it was a daily driver then or when the breaks were last maintained. There is definatley new disks and pads on the rear so id say they were done in the last service.

Good job, give it a regular thrashing!
you'll get these issues on any used car a few years old, particularly if they don't get driven much. The worst thing is street parking and not driving them. A lot of water collects inside any cars panels and body sections that would normally be ejected every time its moved around. Dread to think what happens to the metalwork after a few years of non use.
I suspect they were replaced before for a similar reason Peter, and then its been sat around again!

Just make sure its not the handbreak mechanism thats giving you trouble.

the handbrake mechanism is on the calliper though isnt it? In saying that though i did notice there was a bit of slack on the cable where it connects to the caliper. Right im fairly confident now it is the calipers needing replacment, might give Gary Furber a call now see what he has.

Cheers!

mine had exactly the same problem and mine started making a very nasty grinding noise...I ended up needing new calipers and pads and discs....nice!

Honda told me it was a quite a regular problem especially in older ones like mine..
