Another tyre choice question
I've read through all the tyre threads, but there seems to be a lot of old information in there now, not to mention the combination of advice for 16" and 17" being in the one place can cause confusion, for me anyway!
I'm running a 2002MY with later 17" oem rims, currently on Avon ZZ3 tyres, The ZZ3's are ok, nothing special but not ditchfinders either. However they're all pretty much worn out now, especially the fronts which have massive wear on inside front edges. I'm looking for the following:
Good wear rates (I do 400 miles a week in summer, mostly straight line)
Reasonable grip, not looking for a trackday tyre as if i do one i'll drive within the limits of the tyres. Nothing worse than the ZZ3 anyway
Something current that is easily available through Blackcircles or similar and in the standard sizes for OEM 17" wheels
I guess i'm looking to hear what others are using as a good all round tyre, on 17" wheels, for everyday higher than average mileage.
Oh, and no asymetrics, as I may swap the fronts round when the inside edge starts wearing again!
Cheers

Just look at the votes in the Tyre Thread here: https://www.s2ki.com/...he-tyre-thread/
Bridgestone RE050 does everything you want.

I've read through that tyre thread a couple of times already, and to be honest there's too much information and opinion in it!! Its getting to be quite an old thread now and a few times I've come close to deciding which tyres to get only to find out they've been superseded by newer models, have been discontinued, have limited availability or have been recommended for the 16" wheels. There's also lots of talk in there about varying from the recommended sizes etc.
Is there a case for new threads now, seperate ones for 16" wheels, 17" wheels and non OEM wheels? There must come a time when the information becomes so old that its worth starting again afresh?
Not complaining by the way, just suggesting :-)

No-one there has done back to back tests, so it's all non-fact based opinion really (other than perhaps some of the wear rate info).
In the main people tend to use 3 or 4 tyre types, so it's not that difficult to decide really.
