Default Any one had a problem with Bluetooth Code Reader?

Hello All,

Got one of those cheap bluetooth OBDII readers off eBay. I've seen other people use them, and my friend has used one on my S2000 however the one i have brought will connect to everything fine except every software gives the same error of it not talking to the ECU.

Any one else had this problem?

Its the ELM327 style one, although it doesnt say it anywhere on the reader.

Cheers,

Tony

How old is your car? The very early cars may not work with OBD2

year 2000

Official code readers (maxiscan) and garage laptops worked fine. As well as a OBD Blutooth scanner of the same type with my friends phone.

It usually states OBD2 on a plaque somewhere doesn't it?

What are you connecting it to (phone wise)?
The Bluetooth ones never seem to work well with iPhones, so you have to get a wifi reader instead.

I tried my windows 8.1 laptop and my nokia lumia windows phone.

It connects to the laptop and phone fine, its the module talking to the ecu that seems to be the problem.

I also have a year 2000 (Xreg) if you are buying the ebay connectors it is touch and go on which one works, I tried 3 different ones before I got one working, it works fine it streams most of the live data to the torque app. Not sure which one I have as they all look the same on ebay lol, but it is one of the mini ELM327 style ones, I will try and get some more information on it over the weekend, as the one that actually works my mate gave me.

I also got a cheap one from Amazon. Didn't work in either of my cars... Interested to know of reliable inexpensive readers. Just want it for a "bit of fun" rather than anything too serious.
