Surprising how tricky it is to remember... trouble is the roads are busier and the GATSO is prolific around that area. Hopefully we can get down there for a whiz around soon, It'll all come flooding back.
Our favorite open bike ride was over the Saltash Bridge, A38 to Trerule Foot Roundabout and pick up the A374 via Polbathic, Crafthole and Anthony - back into Plymouth on the Torpoint ferry. The roads are good with fast areas, some forest area and hilly on the A38 road. Its easy to drive and kind on the car. If you want an Ice cream then dive off south just after Trerule Foot into hessenford, Seaton, Downderry (ridiculous windy drop down to sea level and little beaches) back to Anthony and Torpoint. That Cawsand bay road is beautiful in summer, the view is right out over the Channel. Not done it for a few years so no idea if its all restriced and GATSo'd to death, however.

For the more technical stuff I always liked to leave Plymouth by Plymstock in the SE corner, taking the A379 to Modbury, Kingsbridge and Slapton Sands. Then you can wind back up to Exeter Services pretty easily via Torquay and Dawlish. That's a full day out but plenty of places to break on the way.
Staying in the Dartmoor route as mentioned before, you can actually drive right around Burrator Reservior. Its narrow in places but a nice relaxing trundle if thats your thing.
I have to get down there and explore a few things with the car, whats appealing on a sportbike may be dull in a car.... and you have to be able to keep it together.

Porlock to lynmouth is like a mini Ilse of Man with amazing coastal views.
Its just the 300 foot drop and no armco on the coast road descent tends to focus the mind, and not in a positive way!
hey! i'm from plymouth! live in london but was heading back to my parents on march 23rd. was gonna be testing my ps3 which arrives then, but driving sounds better!
