AP1 Facelift Diff Failure
I know the pre-facelift can have issues, but with the facelift version the diff got upgraded.
Have there been any/many diff failures on the facelift model, if so what was the issue?
I use my car daily but also enjoy track days and autosolos, so i do tend to drive it quite hard with some sideways driving occasionally, i have been thinking about a diff ratio swap instead of power mods but worried that if i do that i will have more chance of causing failure.
My main reason for my question is on the BMW E36 they fitted a longer FD ratio and CDV to stop the diff being ripped from the floor. a mate of mine changed the ratio and removed the CDV and needed to get his floor repaired, i am obviously looking to try to make sure that this does not happen.

I haven't heard of many diff failures - they usually get swapped when they start to whine.
It's probably due to the amount of abuse you've exacted upon it.

The BM issue is weak and rusting mounting points isn't it?
CDV is to protect the clutch and for additional gayness

They are all ap1 however as it was covering all years for uk cars I figured it would have been easier that way, clearly I was wrong
So do the 04+ not have a different diff?
Sometimes this forum can be very picky, others really useful

I dont get it, they're all AP1 in the UK and he is on about the facelift model which was in 2004 so he is right...
Anyway back OT i dont think an added final drive will cause extra load on the car other than what you normally put on it, just change the diff oil more than the service manual states and you should be fine.

Instead of all these snarky comments, why not just help the guy out? You know what he meant.
