Actually when you read on the site their seems a whole lot of people wailing at the quality of MK4 golfs compared to MK3's! I thought mine seemed well screwed together but the passenger seat rattles (17 K on a 51 plate, see what they can at service time coz I couldn't see anyhthing obvious)
Seems like VW have also set record price increases when it comes to servicing, averaging

Horses for courses I guess. I love mine
Mind you, the seat belts rattle despite being changed and I need to sort that out cos it drives me mad!
There are other various squeaks and rattles but I'll iron them out over time.
As an overall package I like it though.

I wouldn't call it quick but it handles better than I expected it would.
I don't think you would have a problem getting a Honda dealer to give you a test drive in one.

I find the CRV quite comfortable on motorways, my first impressions of it were that I could drive the car all day and it will sit happily at 100.

I'm going down the fast estate route because I want the driving dynamics of a car but with some extra load capacity. I will never take the car "off-road" and hopefully the only thing the 4wd will be doing is keeping me on a fast B road rather than spraying mud.
As my mum and dad live in France now I'm also going to be driving down to them and the S is not the most spacious of vehicles and as yet I can't work out how to carry a 9'3" surf board on it!!
Thanks for all the advice so far!!

Actually Steve, a CRV is an SAV and not an SUV.
I don't believe I really typed that.
Anyway, It's basically a Civic MPV with spacers on the suspension struts, as opposed to a dumb SWB pickup truck with a station wagon body.
From a production engineering point of view, the CRV is very clever, and as a result it handles in a much more Civic-like way than an SUV.
I apologise for all the acronyms.
