i get 52mpg out of my Vectra 2.0DTi. it's slow though but revs pretty low at 90mph on a track
Despite it being the car that most treat with utter contempt my 3 year old 1.9TD1 6 speed sequential/auto Vectra is great for being an irritant.
It has enough torque to surprise & leave many in it's wake, as it accelerates seamlessly & smoothly. (using manual sequential is so much slower).
It drives white vanman & BMW tossers nuts, as I reward them for tail-gating by baulking them at the bottom of an incline or slowly circumnavigating a roundabout, then flooring my nasty cheap invisible Vauxhall & leave them floundering - tosser catches me eventually as of course he must, if only to save his pride.

And yes the private joy, nay smugness, of owning something a little different & superior to the endless streams of Boxsters and Z4's etc etc.

Honda S2000 - the thinking persons sportscar that requires brains to own and ability to tame. Not for the poseur, or social inadequate who depends on peer group approval.

I've a Pug 106 1.1, the brakes worry me everytime I need to stop quick, they do work ok(just mot'd) but not confidence inspiring all the same.

1.9 TDi Skoda Superb was best beater I ever had - average of 55mpg when blasting on cruise control doing 85 ish on motorway, had 65mpg out of it several times, got every conceivable extra toy and convenience factor going, was the 130bhp version would consider the 1.9 TDi skoda octavia estate as same engine and more practicality as bigger boot. Don't care about badges.
Oddly 1992 Audi 80 did 40mpg regardless of the pasting I gave it but was not the most inspiring with braking system and had manual windows but electric wingmirrors ..... confusing to say the least.
