Default A bad day

Yesterday I was looking out of my office window while talking on the phone, only to see a car trying to squeeze between my car and a parked lorry. He had no chance of fitting a 5ft wide car through a 3ft gap.. I was thinking to myself, but it didn't stop him trying.. idiot !! he managed to scrape my wing mirror, door, hardtop, rear panel, wheel and bumper.

Luckily I saw him do this, and went straight outside and got his number plate and mobile number.. he said that he wanted to pay for the damage directly rather than use the insurance company, but I think that he was thinking it would cost 50 quid, not 800, which is the rough estimate the garage gave me.

It's now going through the insurance, is there anything I should bear in mind when getting this work done ? should I insist on a complete respray ? or anything else ? they said that they will check the geometry, as the rear wheel was hit.. is there anything else ?

To add to this, I dropped my key-fob last night, then it wouldn't arm/disarm the alarm, but it still seems to work, as the little red light still flashes.

I've got an aftermarket alarm, but I don't know which type it is.. although the keyfob has ezsdei476 on the back of it, does anyone know how to program this keyfob ? or should I just buy a new one ?

Where would I find the actual alarm ? I can see the siren under the bonet, but I haven't got a clue where the main body of the alarm is.

So many questions...

Yeah, he decided to use his insurance once he realised that it ws going to cost him 800 squid.

Glad I've gone that way, as the insurance are providing me with a courtesy car eqivalent to the S2000.. so that will be interesting to see what arrives.. and if I can rev it to 9000

The body shop also said that if there are any unexpected costs, like the geomerty or something that wasn't noticed initially, they can get that money off the insurance company, but if he paid directly it would be far more difficult to get cash from him.

Use his insurance regardless of what he wants. People like this who clearly can't park/drive need a wrap on the knuckles, and the best way to do that is to hit their insurance. Maybe next time he'll think twice.

Blimey that's a bit harsh.

Some times people make mistakes and you can't really blame him for not wanting to take the hit on his insurance.

The important part is that Rich gets his car back to as it was.

If you claim on his insurnance and his insurance pays, he always has the option of paying the insurance company the cost of the claim so that it doesn't affect his no claims.

MCB shouldn't be too dificult a colour to match they will still need to blend it though. When you get it back make sure you inspect it in daylight and view it from a distance checking for changes in colour at the edges.

That is so annoying. I am pleased for you that you caught him in the act. I wonder if he would have owned up or just driven off.
Looks like a google search on your keyfob brings up plenty of ebay options. Can't readily find instruction online for reprogramming unfortunately.
