A lot of people didn't like the rasp of my E46 M3 and even thought that it had a problem! I on the other hand, loved every second of it!

Best engine note ever? Last of the F1 V10's at the end of 2004 (I think). You tube it!

Im standard trim the S2000 dosnt really sound that exciting, But take the airbox lid off and thats a diferent story

With a nice exhaust it sounds superb.

Greatest ever engine note might have to be this

M3's do tend to sound rattly, like the exhaust is about to fall off!

I'm more than happy with the sound of my S, airbox lid off and through a tunnel or two. At rest though, it is rather quiet. However, it's not always appropriate to want to draw attention.

Recent 911's are very distinctive, and quite nice. Astons are lovely. Although I heard a Maserati the other day waiting to get into a concert at the Shepherd's Bush Empire and that was knee-shakingly gorgeous!

My favorite is either an AMV8 or something like a 360 modena with a Capristo on it. Evil.

Try putting a Carbonetic diff and clutch/flywheel in the S2000. It sounds like a cement mixer inside and out!!

You don't care once you're going fast tho.

Are we forgetting the Satanic sound of the Lambo V12 circa the mid 80's Countach.....

How about the sound of a Group B Audi Quattro? The Pikes peak one with possibly the biggest and most brash body kit I have ever seen!

M5 with the V10 and a Borla exhaust. Or the Merc AM63 or whatever you call it, sounds like a Merlin engine at full chat.

Or John Dodds ' The Beast ', ugly car but what a noise.

Some of the later M3 / Ferrari stuff just sounds broken on tickover and plain noisy when accelerating, you either like the factory noise or you don't.

S2000, as standard sounds like a singer sewing machine and is improved a little with exhaust / intake but it's missing at least 2 cylinders so is never going to sound special.

Subaru boxer engine just sounds lovely
