Sorry, this is a bit of a sappy question, but how many miles are needed to bed in new pads and discs?

Every other time I've had them done, the garage has said something along the lines of take it easy for the first few miles, but the garage that did my S said no hard breaking for 200-300 miles.

Is this a case of H&S gone crazy, or have I just been given bad advce in the past?

As for the hard breaking, when I used to do my own pads years ago, the guy at the local parts shop used tell me just to find a quiet road and do few emergency stops to bed in new pads. Good job I didn't have a 150mph car back then........

If only I'd had this three days ago, or more importantly, if only every garage I've ever used to change pads in the past had known it.
