Default Bedford Autodrome - Highly Recommended

Was there yesterday at an Open Pit Lane day. Had a bit of tuition also.

I think many people here have been to Bedford but here are my pearls of wisdom!

Excellent track - although very, very long so takes a long time to learn - most of the morning in my case. Personally I prefer a shorter track like Snetterton.

Seemed kind to tyres, not to brakes (see other post). I am relatively "smooth" but even so, was pleasantly suprised how little rubber I burnt.

Instruction well worth it - book in advance to get it as early as possible.

Were the other track users OK? I've heard bad things about Bedford.

With whom did you book?

I went on an Open Pit Lane evening at Bedford last year and loved it.

Read that Nick Graves had misgivings before I went which spooked me a bit as I have the greatest respect for him and his views.

It was wonderful even if it was pouring with rain when we arrived.

Tuition is so worth it.

It was by taking the corner at the end of the back straight there when the track was damp as instucted that gave me faith in the braking and handling characteristics of the S.

No problem with other track users at all. Everyone was well behaved.

Usual mix of cars. Probably most interesting were the entire collection of KTM Crossbows in the country - 11 in all. Piccy below....

Can you blame them about the noise? Idiots who complain about noise by a race track (really? no S***!) have almost destroyed croft race circuit.

I have been to Bedford a few times now (Aug + Dec 08, Jan + Feb 09, would have come on Saturday but had to work) and I love it. Can't wait till April to get there again now I have my Cusco bits fitted and my new geometry. We shall soon see how I get on.

Shame is, its nearly 200 quid a pop now, was 119 quid in December and January and they were IMO the best days I have done there.

Edit - Just read your comment Nick, I'm gobsmacked by that.. I think they manage the track incredibly well there, and the live snatches work great for keeping you out on track when an incident happens. I do think they need to learn to use the blue flag a bit though, its really annoying being held up all the way round the track until you get to the long straight, and then getting left for dead, only to catch them back up at the left right at the end of that straight and be stuck behind them again for ANOTHER lap : /

That's good news - I think it depends on who organises it and the class of the participants.

Either that or all the local chavs in slammed Rectums and other 10th rate POS have gone killed themselves/each other.

The noise killed by local airfield, Bassingbourn. Which is a military base FFS!

When's the April date? Wouldn't mind a half-day, if I could spare any time!
