Do these sound any better/different than the OEM cat?
I am considering getting one for a number of reasons and just curious if there is any sound or performance benefit on a totally standard 06 model
Cheers
Due to less honeycomb internally, it would sound slightly louder.
To be honest, I experienced no real noticeable difference in sound.
Sounds the same as stock to me

As mentioned. Great bit of kit and recommended on here for the past 10 years or so.

Thanks for the info s2000_f20. I did know about the different sizes and knew that I needed the 63.5mm one. I emailed s2ktuning yesterday but have got no response yet, so I tried Tarmacsportz and they replied within the hour. The one from Tarmacsportz is about £30 more than s2ktuning.

Could you explain why you suggest that I also replace the gasket when all I need to do is get the cat replaced?

The gasket is sandwiched between the front manifold and the CAT.
I believe it is designed as a one use type gasket.

Some people re-use it depending on how old the it is and its fine, but if your paying someone to replace the CAT and fit everything then its worth buying a new gasket for peace of mind just in case the old one starts leaking.

s2ktuning does a take a few days to respond.
Does Tarmacsportz have them in stock? I believe the Berk CATS are sourced from the USA.

Is this the gasket you are referring to? https://www.tegiwaimports.com/select...ket-s2000.html The part number is different to the one you gave. Do you have any links to other sites that sell them?

Is it essential to replace it or rather just peace of mind knowing that everything will fit correctly? The cat I have is not the OEM one, I replaced that about 8 years ago with one from a guy called Dixon from this site so it has been detached at least once.

Tarmacsportz told me they have a couple in stock so I won't have to wait too long to get one.

The gasket under discussion is not a flat thin sheet but is cone shaped and seals the flexible portion of the exhaust where the header and cat are held together by spring bolts which allow for flexing and expansion. That gasket has to be thick and flexible to do its job. Service Manual specifies "replace." Yeah you can probably reuse the existing gasket if it's OK but no point in taking this apart more often than you need to.

Apologies @gtman
The part number for the gasket should be 18229-PCX-003
I have amended my original post for future ref
As per your link from tegiwa.
You could try Coxmotorparts, although that is around the price for it.

Use forum25 discount code on tegiwa, should give you 2.5% discount.
Not much but its something.

I refreshed the springs and bolts at the same time with this kit, which I felt was decent value and has done the trick so far...

Cat ordered from S2ktuning today. I was going to buy the OEM gasket but will probably get the one from ebay if it's any good simply because the one on tegiwaimports isn't in stock and it looks like at least a 2-3 weeks delay in delivery. I also checked Cox but couldn't find it.

Do these cats need to be really hot to pass the MOT emissions test?

You have to email cox sales@coxmotorparts.co.uk as it isn't listed on their website. Mainly because it is not a real hot seller item so they tend not to list stuff like that,
It was only 4 days delivery when I ordered one form them. They ordered it straight from Europe's stock.
Tegiwa get some of their stuff from japan hence the longer lead times.

Yep, with any CAT it needs to be up to temperature when being tested.
Good idea to give it a hard drive before the test aswell.
Also make sure the car is serviced and the spark plugs are in good healthy condition too.

I ordered the gasket from ebay as recommended by mysteryjedi. The last time I ordered an OEM part back in December last year it took 3 months to be delivered.
