Default Big Accident! Minimal Damage

Bit of a lucky escape I suppose yesterday and even more luckily we were driving my wifes car at the time!

Had to stop in the outside lane while some stupid lorry driver did a U turn thru the central reservation. No room on the inside lane and then the inevitable happens! A young girl, who it must be said probably was the cause of the accident, ploughs into the back of what is now a 3 car queue. She was clearly going quite fast as she pushed all 3 cars together and the front one hit the back of my wifes car.

Luckily we sustained virtually no damage although the cars behind were not so lucky. I exchanged details, and I have the lorry's reg but he drove off. Is there anything else I should do? I think the lorry should be done for dangerous driving but don't know how to start the ball rolling. I guess that as the repair to our car is going to cost

Shouldn't you be able to make a 3rd party claim straight from the other person thus not involving your insurance ??

Best have the car checked though. Bumper may be ok, that's not to say all the crash absorbing stuff underneath isn't.

plastic bumpers can spring back out, masking carnage beneath it - have a look at the back panel from within the boot...

The fact that it was a contributory factor in a major accident says to me that it was dangerous driving.

Surely there was a roundabout not a million miles away?

looking at that bumper there will be damage underneath, judging from the deformation that has come through the plastic. the bumper skin might be salvageable, but it will probably be cheaper to replace. i suspect that it will need behind the bumper though.
