Default Brake upgrade options

On a brief (very) track outing today it became clear std calipers and red stuff wont cut it with my extra FI grunt (albeit someone was making me brake more than i wanted to)

So..

Cooling ducts
Big brake setup
Super dooper pads (I'm skeptical of this)

post any first hand experience please.. I am running c380hp at the fly, over stock weight as i dont want to strip stuff out

Pad choice makes a huge difference to stopping power. I have had yellow stuff pads and then went across to carbotech xp8 and the difference was like night and day. Problem is cost and that will set you back £300 for front and rear.

Big brake set up or a bigger disc ie the ballade brake kit would reduce heat build up. I never went the big brake kit just because of the larger wheels or spacers being needed. From what ive seen the ballade large disc runs under OEM wheels.

Try out better pads first and see what you think and then if you decide they are not far off being perfect then get the larger discs.

What sort of budget are we talking?

I've slowly learnt budget is just a concept with a car like this Mark haha

I suppose It's a budget Caterham to me, owes me c£11k and was much quicker than an NA Evora albeit you can never judge the driver

So..

Tanabe £1k
Vented bonnet £709
Pads... Hmm

Or I could trade to a Loti.. I'm quite attached to my NA S2 and have an M3 which will cart us to the in laws in safety and comfort tomorrow, in the rain. Hence my indecision I spoke.

Price puts me off. Having driven a 145bhp I know it's not enough really, even for Donny which is pretty twisty..

200bhp cars are pricey..

I used the Dixcel Z and RA pads to good effect (along with their discs) as did MB on his race car.

However, I think MB eventually went BBK mostly because of the cost of replacing pads regularly at a few £100 a time. Details are here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela...-st40-1182043/

I'd suggest doing that as it'll be a lot less of your time changing pads over and a lot less money in the long run.

Good thread here explaining it all and from someone with experience: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-br...h-bbk-1150356/

These have proven pretty good . Admittedly I’ve only done 2 track days on them and I’m very new to track driving ( so probably don’t use them to their full potential) only have DS2500 in them but never had any fade .... as I get quicker I suspect a different pad choice will be needed

Carbotech XP10 and Ferodo ds1.11 are excellent I run them with Performance Friction 2 piece discs, which are expensive, but last well. I ran some bremtech discs in the past, which worked fine but cracked after 1 trackday.

Cooling helps a lot I bought some ducting and ducts from demon tweeks, cut a hole into the heat shields and mounted the ducts, then took the feed to the front bumper and mounted them to some zunsport grills either side.

I bought 4 pots which I have finally made to fit under some rota fighters with a 5mm spacer.
havent tracked yet and I've just blown my ECU so not going to be able to test them for a while!!

I've just done my first track day since supercharging the S2000. Dixcel Type Z pads worked a treat. They didn't fade, but did generate enough heat to crack a disc. So, new rotors for me, plus some ducting when I get the hubs off to fit the shrouds etc.
