Breaking Her In...
Finally getting my Silverstone 2002 in 3 weeks time - it's been a long 3 months wait!
I've heard conflicting ideas on how to break the car in before heading into VTech land. The last piece of advice given to me is to keep it below 5000rpm for the first 500 miles and then treat yourself to an extra 1000rpm every 100 miles thereafter. I've been warned about keeping an eye on the oil each time you fill up - also a possible change after 1000 miles?
Any advice for a newbie appreciated!

This may be worth reading regarding the oil
mineral oil Check the tyre pressures are 32 all round and a search about checking that "spring spacers" have been removed will be worthwhile.
All the best
EDIT after a request, here's a thread containing pictures of spring spacers both on
and off the car

I'm at about 690 miles now. Can I rev all the way yet? I kept below 5500 rpm until 500 miles, 6500 rpm until 600 miles, and now twice I've gone to 7500 rpm and it makes me cringe abit every time (after driving a civic all those years.)
Basically how should I go to 9000 rpm. Just go there? Or rev to 7500 a few more times, then 8000 ...

If your new S is a 2002, I guess it's already got a few k on the clock, so running in wont be an issue.
Check the oil regularly, weekly if you spend a lot of time in VTEC land. And the tyres to.
Also, take it easy for a while when you get the car, especially in the wet
You'll luv it

Read the technical FAQ:

It should answer all your questions.
Also note that the engine will continue to improve upto about 10000 miles as everything beds in.
And to reiterate on the oil front: Use mineral NOT synthetic. Check it everytime you fill up with petrol and you won't get caught out.

Interestingly, after the first oil fill which was after my run-in period, I have hardly used any oil at all.
And I do an average, I would say, amount of VTEC-ing.
Are the 03 cars more conservative on oil usage?

Don't know if it made it into the FAQ but a lot of people, myself included, run the car for ~4 miles before using the full 9,000 RPM to ensure everthing is nicely warmed up.
When there are three bars on the dash i.e. the VTEC limiter won't cut in, the temperature relates to water not oil temperature.
