I like the one about baby oil, I didn`t even know you could use that on the car.....is it as much fun?????

It's just a detergent/degreaser. It does not attack the lacquer or paint if used in the way described.

I suppose if you left it on for days (why would you though?) it might be a problem, though not as bad as leaving the bugs/muck untouched. Bird's mess for example WILL etch the lacquer if left unattended.

Certainly the waxing is key, and if the car is regularly waxed it's difficult for any bugs or mess to stick.
