Default Building an S2000 Engine

OK so I'm looking at a few options further down the line
If I were to blown the motor on my supercharged car. I think I'd probably build up an engine capable of higher boost and bigger injectors.
Question is what else would be a good idea for either reliablity or performance?
All sensible suggests

Its pretty simple

For reliability,

Forged pistons, balanced and strengthened cam shafts, uprated valve springs, con rods, retainers, arp bolts, etc etc.

For performance, well I wouldnt really bother doing much internal. Once you have a strong block, with a well mapped ECU, its then all about boost. There are gains to be had by porting and ITB's etc!

I would bet Ant can advise you better but you could work it out within a few hours.

The big BUT to this is that for real fun I would just buy a 2.2 litre lump and ECu from J's Racing, sod the blower and be looking at about 280 bhp

Another BUT is that for the money and hassle you will get from going internal, I think a spare block would be cheaper - keep your existing one stock and run to failure. Again, if its well mapped then it should last very well, even running highish power... Life WILL be shortened...

MB you stalking me

I like the idea of a 2.2 or 2.4 strong bottom end all balanced. How much would it cost to ship a US short blokc :thikner: Maybe I could get Mase to bring one over, fit it and tune it

Up top, not sure on cams, but gas flowedhead manifold and throttle body, resized valves. Obviously stronger springs and retainers.

Not too keen on ITB's too much hassle.
Probably go AEM EMS to manage it all (just need to get a competent tuner )

True - but I'm contemplating starting this project now and doing a bit at a time os the "beast" is ready for transplant when the stock engine starts to go.

Mikey, I prey on interesting posts - anything to do with tweaking

2.2 is the limit IMO. The cyclinder walls are like paper as it is, and although it uses a stroker, they still have to bore out the cyclinder walls. Not good for hot temps.

I'm with you on the stroker kits. The fact there aren't too many running them in the US show how difficult they are.

I like the idea of a USDM block, not sure whether it is worth doing anything with it though If I take it down to rework I can see me have trouble getting bits to rebuild it

Are you planning to mod the engine before you S/C or after?

I really dont think its worth the bother IYSWIM. If you were going turbo and big power I could see it. Also, im not sure big power on a S/C is that efficient compared to a turbo...
