Camera Vans
On three occasions now I have seen a white van with pop out windows in the rear doors with 2 Camera type things pointing out of the back. Police cars have been positioned a couple of hundred yards ahead.
Haven't heard a pip squeak out of the Bel 550 or more understandably the Gps device.
These have been sited on thhe A64 near Tadcaster, A19 north out of york and into Harrogate.
Now are these checking speed with Video?? Hence no alert from the Bel.
Or are they operating a "cloaking sytem" with laser detection?
or are they looking for tax disk dodgers and criminal cars?

Tax disc / number plate cameras I believe.
Tax disc / number plate cameras I believe.
These were just stand alone video cameras on a tripod with a van parked next to them that had something like "Tax Avoidance" written along the side.
Same happened with me not a peep from my detector and when I saw a load of policemen at the next layby with vans and lorries that looked illegal even with me travelling at 50 mph I guessed that it was tax disc avoidance
I have seen vans clerly marked explaining they were tax avoidance detection which were white, with cameras pointing out of one, maybe both, rear windows. Got a really good look at one while in the queue for an air show. Perhaps they have different versions.
These systems are passive video - they emit nothing - so nothing to detect. I understand they pick up illegal numberplate fonts/spacing too.
One set up I noticed recently had proper fold out road signs in pace telling you what they were doing. You could read the signs across a dual carriageway thought he cameras were only looking in one direction. IIRC that was a camera on a tripod set up. We drove past again an hour or so later and it had gone. I suppose the more that see it the grater the deterrent effect. Bit like TV detectors, which could be stealthy but are, in fact, well advertised.

I saw a similar van nr Bakewell a few weeks ago. It DEF was not a tax avoidance van. The tax avoidance vans have the DVLA splashed across them and not Safety Camera blah blah on the side.
It had a pop out rear hatch with two cameras, not a beep out of my RA either. I thought it must be to watch for bikes overtaking around the corners??
