can't start the engine...

S2000 engines sit on hydralic mounts which do give quite a bit so in a med frontal the ground wire from the N/S under chassis rail upto the engine can snap causing voltage issues across all the sensors.

car is x reg, it hav hit something like lamppost i think, so bumper, bonnet is dameged, though radiators are ok

It does sound like engine shunt, try the lead from the NEGATIVE post on the battery to the engine block.

so just take of negative off battery on engine block and then start the engine??? corect?

No you need to connect a new lead from the battery -ve terminal and attach it to the earth point under the chassis, which the gearbox sensors use.

What Lloyd is suggesting is that the earth which the sensors use is damaged, so you are getting the fault codes light up.
