Car Alarm Problems
Just walking round the house this morning and the car starts screaming. Went out and my 2 button fob would not work - the buttons were all mushy. No it wasn't a dream. Nothing would seem to stop the alarm so in the end i disconnected the battery. Both terminals - made no difference. Now after about 10 minutes, the racket has finally stopped, but for how long i don't know. Need to make an important journey this pm. What should i do?

See if you can replace the battery in your fob? That might sort the problem. Otherwise, with the alarm disarmed or the battery disconnected try pushing the door switches (the rubber covered things on the body of the car in the door shuts when you open the door), the bonnet switch (pin sticking up near the headlight on the drivers side) and the boot switch (can't remember where this is but guess its near the locking mech) a couple of times each as sometimes they stick a bit depending on the age of the car and that can cause the alarm to trigger for no reason as it'll send a false signal to the alarm system saying something is open. If the roof is up then you shouldn't have a problem with it being the roof switch.

Thanks Floppy. I may have found the cause - i think the passenger door was ajar overnight and a i know a flat battery can cause alarm problems. Didn't know it could keep on after disconnection though. And i thought it would respond to the key fob. I'll check the fob battery. I've taken the car battery out and it seems to be taking a big charge so fingers crossed a couple of hours will do for now. Good tip about the switches and not so far off the mark. Actually i disconnected the boot switch many years ago as i thought it made it more secure - might be a fallacy, but the alarm hasn't complained.

Trouble now with the charger. The battery seems to be taking such a charge the charger's got very warm and is melting the plastic around the 6v/12v bridge switch. It never bloody rains...
