Question Caught speeding by plod

I was out last night seeing a friend who had flown over from the states, took him out for a quick blat in my car round the Lincoln ring road.

I caught up with a fairly slow going Vectra - 50ish mph, and we both went into a roundabout, as we exited (single carriageway - 60mph) I did him in 2nd gear, but as I was going past, the fecker accelerated quite hard, but i changed up to 3rd and got past.

I probably hit 85-90 as I went past the Vectra, mainly due to the fact that the git accelerated so hard. I began to back off back down to a cruising speed of 75... a few seconds later blue lights appear from the grill

Busted...

I pulled over and plod asks me to get into his car, I admit to speeding and apologise... but then I say "why did you need to accelerate so hard when I went to overtake you?" no answer, he side tracks the question and starts giving me the routine and asks why I didn't slow back down after the overtake?

I had no real answer for that and said the road was clear, and I was bringing the speed back down, but yes I was still going too fast.

He got me at an average of 81.1mph which I found a little strange since my speedo was showing mid 70's most of the time, making me think that he turned the VASCAR system on as I was mid overtake.

I think I may have had a point about him accelerating when I went past him, as he just gave me 3 points and

Unlucky and thanks for the heads up.

It sounds a bit annoying as he speeded up while you overtook.

f**kers.

I am wary of ALL Vectras, Skodas and Volvos. Just can't trust anyone these days...

unlucky

I always scrutinise drivers as I pass/after I've passed

but that sounds just like the kind of provocative driving I've seen drivers of unmarked cars use in the past

Yeah, he may have baited, but I count myself lucky that he pulled me when he did.

I was going really nail from the next roundabout onto the dual... I would have been looking at a ban then.

It's that bad karma I mentioned early in the week, Andy....

Tough luck - but it sounds like you've done well to last so long without an encounter with Dibble, given the way you drive!

Actually, it was a text book overtake... indicated, and got past and back in as quickly as possible... plod didn't know what hit him
