Crap in the tank is unlikely as there is a good size filter on the pump.

Its either the knock sensor telling you that you are using crap fuel, the filler cap thing, or jsut one of those spurious things.

Good thing is, that if it is spurious it will go away.

We are all guessing until you get the code though.

Do you think it was just coincidence that he had just filled up or could it have something to do with it.

 

It probably has, hence I think it might be knock sensor related. What happens is that the ignition advance is set for a high grade fuel, then you put crap stuff in, and with the same ingition settings you get a fair bit of knock. This is picked up by the knock sensor and in extreme cases it can go into a kind of limp mode where it really backs off timing. After time it will recover and compensate, and the light goes out.

Either running the car through it, putting good fuel back in, or an ECU reset will sort it.

In this case you really do need the code before you reset.

It may be unrelated, but where there is an observed change (in this case fuel) it normally hints at the fault.

Didnt get the chance to get it into vtec! i'll give it a go though, i filled it up at BP though! and i overfilled it as i wasnt watching and it went all ovre the place!! that'll teach me!

 

Badger has maybe never had a full tank in it

 

 

I'd also just open the fuel cap up and close again, now you have used some fuel.

 

Just done that but not had a spin, just fired her up, i should be able to tell soon though

 

Missed this one somehow.

I can categorically state that the CEL has never ever come on during my ownership and I have certainly used 95 on occassion.

I might have run out once too But that was about a year ago.

Was this after the oil flush/replace and decat? Could be the 02 sensor if the latter.
