17k is a serious bargain chilled. Your car has done 8 times as many miles and is another year older, for it to be 1k more expensive is good going. That said, it's not suspicious to me just the right side of a bargain to be straight imo . good buy!
now I'm off to cry about the value of my car!

It was just a bargain, I've had my fair share over the years, my BMW direct from BMW UK was 2.5k behind book at the time, just right place right time.
Problem is I would have gone for the S2000 if I had known but I know the guy who bought it was prepared to go to book on it as he had somebody for it, so it would never have ended up as a bargain for me.
There was nothing suspicious about it, I think my Dad can be relied on after 35 years experience to tell if it was dodgy or not.

Actually 17k for an 06 with 6k miles isn't particularly cheap. It's cheap but not suspiciously so. My 05 with 45k is realistically only worth 16k. So 17k as an auction price, for the 06 is about right.
Considering it is at auction and the time of the year.
I could only get

my old S which was written off and 're-built' by what seemed like an amateur was sold at one of these. Be careful - all is not what it seems at these places.

They will have done basic checks and will indicate to the market if it has been recorded on VCAR etc, but that is all.
However this probably relies upon the person submitting the car to auction to tell them on the forms.
You need to be just as thorough as if you pick up a private sale. Or even more so.

Update.
I just spoke to my Dad, the car was provisional it was a Lex leasing car and is a dark blue GT, his friend bid 17K and had it provisionally knocked down but they couldn't do a deal.
He wasn't too far away with his bid though, and it will be going through again tomorrow!
Thats what happens when you are hung over and don't listen properly.
