Check your Nuts
Since last year when Adam and mike spotted one of my rear wheels was running on 2 wheel nuts... i now check my 'nuts' at least once a month... Im very surprised each time i check my wheel nuts out of the 20 sometimes a couple are 'loose' i do them up with a proper wrench at the required settings
So if you have never done it , just for me - grab your wheel brace and give each nut a quick check... post your findings id be interested to see if this is just me that is suffering ' slack nuts '

Proper settings are pants.
Go for 100lbs/ft instead
Make sure the wheel boss and hub are clean/free from debris.
When fitting wheels, try to nip them up in the air, but remeber to tighten the nuts in an asymmetric pattern.

When they get hot is when the tend to get loose.
I did a track session in my old car and forget to check the nuts before going back out for a later session.
I had a massive vibration, so stopped at the side of the track only to find the only nut holding the wheel on was the locking wheel nut. The sawing action of the threads of the other studs was enough to ruin the wheel, but it could have been worse!

Best bet is to buy a torque wrench, wheel braces are known to damage alloys either from people not doing up the nuts tight enough or even too tight.
Especially worth noting if you have alloys refurbed recently the new surface will take some bedding in both on the nut shaft and the hub surface.
1 member nearly found out the cost of this at a recent track day.

I tighten my nuts as tightly as i can using the wheel nut spanner supplied with the car. I've never had one come loose and because i'm using the same tool to tighten them as i am to loosen them i've never had one that was too tight to undo.
I make a point of taking each wheel off in turn, checking for stones, screws nails etc, as well as the tyre wear at least once a month. I always torque my nuts up.............just be careful who you lend your torque wrench too
