Default checking oil.

odd one really. I noticed when i check the oil before starting the oil is on the full mark. when I check the oil when warm the oil drops an x and a bit even after 5mins but if the check the oil after 15-20 mins the oil at the top again.

Whats the deal. take the reading after when warm after 5 min or after 20mins

Kind Regards
Stefan

This is not unusual.

When the engine is just turned off after running a lot of the oil is in the top end of the engine. It can take well over an hour for all of it to drain down to the sump. This is a good thing BTW.
The change of one "x" you are seeing equates to about 200ml of oil. It does not really matter if you switch off and top up after 5 mins or if you top up from cold.

However do keep checking regularly as oil consumption can vary a lot with this engine depending on several factors, not least, how much VTEC you use!

So the Best bet is to check after 15min really as i dont fancy dropping to much oil in.

Cheers

best to check once all the oil is back in the sump. i.e. "well over an hour". Try when it is cold for ease.

Not having any oil in stops it dripping off the dipstick when you chack it.
