I'm looking for a solar powered charger that is weatherproof (no power in the garage). It will need to be sited on the garage roof and hence also need long cables. Anybody have any suggestions?

Your only option is to run wires up to the plastic trim under the wipers and put a weatherproof connection there. Stick a fuse inline, in case it shorts.

Then you can plug it in just like Mikey's S4000!

Trickle chargers (at least mine) come with a pigtail to permanently connect to the battery. Yeah ya gotta open the hood.

Slightly off topic, I once had a "discussion" with a work mate who bought a charger and inverter from Maplin (RIP) he actually believed he could run the inverter from the accessory socket, power the charger from that and charge the battery. What a Muppet!

Solar chargers are usually crap. They are needed generally in the winter when there are fewer hours of daylight, and poorer light levels. Some work OK during nice sunny summer days, when you are probably out driving.
